THERE were smiles all round at the Cobden Football Netball Club last week.
Member for Wannon Dan Tehan visited with good news last Thursday, with funds promised for an upgrade to the club’s netball facilities.
Meeting with members of the netball team, Mr Tehan announced funding of $15,750 under round four of the Stronger Communities Program.
He said the Cobden Football Netball Club is planning to significantly improve the netball facilities and increase the capacity to fit two more netball courts and an additional tennis court.
Further works to be undertaken will also include upgrading the lighting to allow mid-week matches to be played and provide for a safer environment for training.
The construction of a shelter will also protect players, coaches and spectators from the weather.
Mr Tehan said upgrades to facilities like this, encouraged more people to be active and play sport.
He said the facilities are also used by more than one group, and this upgrade will also benefit the tennis club and Cobden Country Fire Authority brigade who use the courts for training.
“I congratulate all the committee members on their application and look forward to the development of this wonderful facility,” Mr Tehan said.
The Stronger Communities Program supports the Australian Government’s commitment to helping deliver social benefits in communities across Australia.
The program funds small capital projects which improve local community participation and contribute to “vibrant and viable” communities.
