SCHOLARSHIPS are now open for young people wanting to pursue further education as Moyne Shire Council’s annual academic support scholarship enters its 25 year.

Moyne Shire Council is continuing to invest in the future of the region’s youth, with applications for the annual scholarship now open until the end of this month.

The scholarships have now supported more than 80 students from Moyne’s communities in their first year of tertiary education.

Moyne Shire mayor Ian Smith said council was proud to continue supporting young people transitioning to tertiary education through the $10,000 fund.

“The transition to university can be challenging and costly,” he said.

“This scholarship is council’s way of supporting our young people on their education journey and to help take the pressure off.

“In previous years, recipients have used their scholarship to assist them with transport, books, accommodation and other essential study equipment.

“I encourage all students who have started tertiary education in 2024 to submit an application before the deadline of 4pm on Friday, May 31.”

Scholarships will be awarded to students who started full time tertiary studies in 2024 and resided in the Moyne Shire during their secondary schooling.

The $10,000 fund will be distributed based on applications received.

Students will be chosen based on their academic engagement in VCE/VCAL, but also their engagement within the community, as well as their reasons for undertaking the course and how the scholarship will assist them to reach their goals.

More information about the Academic Support Scholarships, including online application forms, can be found at moyne.vic.gov.au/grants.
