Support appreciated: Cobden and District Community Bank board chair Pat Robertson presents Lions Club of Camperdown members with a cheque for $25,000 toward their fundraising campaign for an all-abilities carousel.

Earlier this month the Lions Club of Camperdown revealed their desire to install an all-abilities playground equipment at the Apex Park and launched a fundraising campaign.

The first stage is to install an all-abilities carousel, with an estimated cost of $74,182.

The club has committed $10,000 of its own funds towards the project and has been planning a variety of fundraising ventures alongside seeking grant opportunities.

Last Friday the Cobden and District Community Bank presented members of the Lions Club of Camperdown with a cheque for $25,000 towards the all-abilities carousel.

Bank board chairperson Pat Robertson commended the club on the initiative.

“It is fantastic that Lions are doing such a project and from the bank’s perspective, we think it is important to support young people and community groups – you’ve ticked all the boxes as far as we are concerned,” she said.

“We really appreciate what you are doing and that we can give back to the community because people like you support us.

“Thank you for what you do, and we look forward to seeing the results.”

Mrs Robertson thanked the wider community for supporting the bank which makes donations like this one possible.

She said all applications for funding were carefully considered to ensure they meet the Community Bank business, community and marketing goals and satisfy its Community Partnering Policy.

Mrs Robertson said moving forward, the bank was particularly interested in receiving applications for funding of innovative projects which provide benefits to a large cross-section of the community.

She said the all-abilities carousel project received unanimous support from the board.

Mrs Robertson said board members felt the project would become an integral part of the area where it will be located and give everyone, regardless of age or ability, the opportunity to use the equipment.

Lions Club of Camperdown president Andy Riordan thanked the bank for its support.

“On behalf of the Lions we would like to thank the Cobden and Camperdown Community Bank for their kind sponsorship of $25,000 and looking forward to seeing things develop in the future,” he said.

“It’s an ongoing project…watch this space for some fundraising in the near future.”

Stage two of the project will see the construction of a play space for seniors and other ages, which will include an exercise unit which assists with agility.

Stage three will be the installation of an in-ground trampoline, while stage four will be the incorporation of sensory equipment.

The play space will be installed near the barbecue area towards the Manifold Street entrance to the park.
