Fundraiser enters new territory
A BRAIN cancer fundraiser has been given a boost thanks to a raffle run by a resident over the past few weeks, with a winner drawn on Tuesday.
The raffle was organised by Kirsty Green as a way to help raise funds for Bentley Currell’s Ride for Brain Cancer, which is scheduled to begin early next year.
Bentley said Ms Green offered to organise the raffle, with Bentley and his sister selling raffle tickets during the recent Christmas on Manifold late-night shopping event.
After selling over 1000 tickets, totalling $1231.25 to go towards their fundraising goal, Camperdown resident Anne Nelson was announced as the winner of the hamper.
Ms Nelson said she was excited to be named the winner.
“I think it’s wonderful,” she said.
“It’s a very good cause, and I think it’s great Kirsty put the raffle on.
“People should donate to good causes at Christmas time.”
Bentley’s father Gus Currell said the funds raised through the raffle have pushed their current fundraising total to close to $2000.
“We have a goal of $5000 by the time we finish, so we’re getting there,” he said.
“We’ve had this raffle, and we’re going to have a few other new raffles in the next few months.
“We’ve got a jersey signed by Grace Brown that we’re going to get framed and use as a raffle prize, and we’ll see what else we can find and raffle them off.
“It’s been really good.
“Just keep supporting us as we get close to the ride.”
Bentley thanked the community for supporting the fundraiser as the ride draws closer.
“We’ll be riding 50-km per day for 10 days, and we’ll have one rest day,” he said.
“It’s 518km, and it should take us about 11 days.
“We’ll have my grandad following us with his caravan.”
The ride will see Bentley and Mr Currell cycling from Mildura to Camperdown.
