Funds flow for six groups
SIX community organisations across Corangamite Shire have benefitted from funding thanks to the Ready Now Grants.
In the December 2023 to February 2024 quarter, a total of $2879 was granted to community organisations under the grant program.
Camperdown Bowling Club Incorporated was one of the recipients, receiving $495 to purchase a replacement battery for their defibrillator.
Camperdown Pastoral and Agricultural society also received funding, with $500 granted to go towards the cost of relocating a water meter.
Other recipients included the Terang and District Probus Club, which received $384 for the purchase of a portable speaker, Port Campbell Rifle Club Incorporated, receiving $500 for the purchase of a solar water pump, and Port Campbell Public Purpose Reserve Committee of Management Incorporated, which were granted $500 for the construction of a portable nine-hole mini golf course.
Councillor Laurie Hickey praised the Ready Now Grants program, calling it a “great program”.
“To the six organisations, congratulations for your success in the application,” he said.
Cr Hickey said he was pleased the Lake Bookaar Recreation Reserve Committee of Management Incorporated was among the recipients, receiving $500 for the purchase of roadside signage.
“I would just point out the Lake Bookaar Recreation Reserve signage is well-needed, because I believe the mayor was lost there last week trying to find the area,” he said.
“That (the signage) will certainly be well-utilised.”
Councillor Ruth Gstrein encouraged organisations to apply for grants, with $13,302.64 allocated out of the $24,253 budget.
“Just to note that, at this point in time, there’s only just over $13,000 that has been spent out of the budget of $24,253, so there’s about $11,000 still available to be claimed,” she said.
“If you’re a member of an organisation, with an urgent need for a piece of equipment, please get onto the council website and apply until June 30.
“We hate seeing money being left in the pot.”
