Funds raised

NOORAT Primary School looked more like the Grammy Awards as students dressed up to raise funds for kids battling cancer.
Costumes were donned last week as part of the ‘A Day in May’ campaign, in which students dress up as their favourite musician or wear a splash of yellow in support of the campaign.
The campaign raises funds for Challenge’s Musical Moments Trust, with the funds providing musical experiences for young children who have been diagnosed with cancer.
Those benefiting from the fund are given the opportunity to enjoy private or group music lessons, home visits from a music therapist, learn to play a musical instrument or even record a song with a musician.
Noorat Primary School teacher Kaitlin Horsnell said the fundraising concept had been driven by the school’s student leadership.
“Our Junior School Council, comprised of our school and house leaders, sat down for a discussion and happily voted to support the fundraiser,” she said.
“They organised it in term one, picked (last Thursday) as our day and we’ve all come along as our favourite singers, wearing yellow or both.”
Ms Horsnell said the gold coin donation provided by the students gave them an opportunity to express themselves while supporting an important cause.
“The kids all look awesome,” she said.
“A lot of effort went in to their outfits, and I could tell who they were all dressing as.
“I’m glad to see they all had a lot of fun.”
