The apprentices from Cobden, Camperdown and surrounds were successful in obtaining $2000 grants to purchase items needed for their respective trades.

The apprenticeship support program was a new initiative of the Cobden and Camperdown Community Bank this year.

Bank director Joan Scott congratulated all recipients.

“I think next year it will be bigger; it’s been so successful,” she said.

“We’re very pleased with the start of the program.

“It’s going to be a driving force to bring these apprentices to the fore in Cobden and Camperdown - they are our future.

“We want to try and encourage the apprentices in any way we can.”

First year hairdressing apprentice at Cobden’s Mallani Hair Jess Negrello was selected as a recipient of the program.

She said she was excited to receive notification of her successful application.

“I was at trade school when I got the email,” Ms Negrello said.

“I used the funds to purchase my scissors.

“I would like to thank the bank for the support they have gave me.

“Thank you also to Peter Young the scissor rep, he looked after me very well.”

Ms Negrello said the financial support from the Cobden and Camperdown Community Bank would make a “big difference” to the apprentices receiving the grant.
