LOCAL Rotary Clubs have helped make a difference to lives across the country through a variety of recent initiatives.
Rotary District 9780 End Trachoma co-ordinator Graeme Fischer said the position of Rotary District 9780 representative for End Trachoma has been a “rewarding one”.
“Over the years over 20 clubs have been involved in producing hygiene bags which were delivered to school children in the Northern Territory,” he said.
“Part of the program has been collecting used stamps which Australia wide has raised over $30,000 for water trailers. Recently 1480 stamps were collected by District 9780 Rotarians."
“There are now four water environmental health trachoma trailers being used in Western Australia where they visit the homelands people monthly.”
Mr Fischer said the trailers have a washing machine and dryer and provides a laundry service to people who would not normally have this service.
He said a member of the maintenance team also supports men with basic services like changing light globes and tap washers.
Mr Fischer said a hearing aid drive saw 275 old hearing aids donated from within Rotary District 9780.
“They will be delivered to a business in Melbourne which refurbishes hearing aids and provides them to disadvantaged people in Australia,” he said.
“Thank you to Rotarians and everyone else involved in the collection."
“Reflect on how something so simple as collecting an old hearing aid or a used stamp can provide a significant improvement on the quality of life of disadvantaged people in Australia.”
