Glass bin update

CORANGAMITE Shire residents are advised to leave their red bins out next week as the shire-wide rollout of purple-lidded bins begins.

By wd-news

Residents will from this week receive the rollout of purple-lidded bins to be used for the recycling of glass bottles and jars.

Under the State Government’s Circular Economy (Waste Reduction and Recycling) Act 2021, glass recyclables will no longer be able to be recycled through the yellow-comingled recycling bin.

The expansion of the recycling system is designed to make the process of recycling more efficient and reduce the amount of materials going in to landfill.

Originally scheduled for mid-April there was a delay in receiving the new purple lids.

Residents are urged to leave their red-lidded bins out on normal collection days from next week, starting May 6, for the changing over of lids.

During this period household to receive a new red-lidded bin, while each household’s current red-lidded bin has its lid switched to purple.

The change is due to purple-lidded bins being collected only once per month, and will therefore receive less wear and tear than red-lidded bins.

The purple-lidded glass bins will begin being collected in the week starting Monday, May 6 and continuing the first full recycling week of each month.

The collection of red, yellow and green-lidded bins will remain unaffected.
