Gold for Grace
CAMPERDOWN cycling export Grace Brown has won gold at the Commonwealth Games.

CAMPERDOWN cycling export Grace Brown has won gold at the Commonwealth Games.
Thirty-year-old Brown finished top of the podium in the women’s time trial final in Birmingham, England, bringing to 10 the number of gold medals the Australian cycling team claimed at the games.
Despite being the final competitor of the major contenders on the course, Brown set the fastest time finishing on 40:05.20.
She averaged 41.1km/h over the 28.8 kilometre course, finishing 34 seconds ahead of England’s Anna Henderson and Georgia Williams from New Zealand.
Fellow team-mate Georgia Baker finished in a creditable fourth place.
The Games gold capped off a remarkable period for Brown, a two-time Australian national time trial champion.
Immediately prior to the Games, Brown was competing in the inaugural Tour de France Femmes, where she spent a lot of time working for FDJ-SUEZ Futuroscope team-mate Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig for the general classification.
Despite the tough tour, Brown said she had “felt good” going into the Games and despite feeling fatigue in her legs during her time trial, she had the power needed to keep going.
Brown joins Anna Wilson, Oenone Wood and Katrin Garfoot as Australian winners of the Commonwealth Games women’s individual time trial.
She made her Olympic debut at the Tokyo Games but narrowly missed the podium when she finished fourth in the time trial.
She returned from a shoulder injury earlier this year to win her second time trial national title, along with another silver medal in the road race.
