MEMBERS of the Camperdown Girl Guides community are grieving the recent loss of ex-guide leader Beverly Farquharson.
Often referred to as ‘Bev’, the 81-year-old died peacefully last month surrounded by family at the Epworth Hospital in Geelong.
Girl Guide region manager Helen Retallack paid tribute to Bev, highlighting her 47 years as a guide leader of the Camperdown Girl Guides Unit; the only surviving Corangamite shire unit.
“Bev has led girls and young ladies in the skills of life, including manners, etiquette, crafts, adventure - including camping, the necessary skills and emotions, and community ceremonial events with the historic origins such as Anzac Day,” she said.
“The Camperdown Girl Guide Hall is the centre of the Barwon south west region, so has been the venue for quarterly meetings of district managers with the region manager in our strongly hierarchical system of organisation.
“Bev has provided the district financial reports as the treasurer, despite the fact that we don’t have an active parent support group.
“She has also catered for morning teas and lunches for these events for the folk who travelled from Geelong area, coastal areas, and through to Portland and Hamilton.”
Bev was a Trefoil Guild member, an international organisation which concentrates mainly on charitable causes.
Ms Retallack reflected on Bev’s dedication to Girl Guides at her funeral service, which was held at the Leura Oval on Monday.
“Rest comfortably, Bev,” she said.
