POMBORNEIT’S under 14 boys have finished their inaugural season in the Colac District competition in third place.

The team enjoyed an 83-run win over City United in the final round of home and away matches.

Batting first on a superb turf wicket at Colac's Eastern Reserve, Pomborneit was 2/24 before Jonty Raven and Sam Fryers consolidated the innings; Raven retiring on 17 from 24 balls and Fryers eight from his 24 balls.

The middle order really upped the ante, with Levi Coote continuing his great form retiring at 41 from 24 balls, Patrick Spokes retiring for the third consecutive game with 20 from 24, while Harry Jenkins hit everything out of the middle to retire on 48 from his 24 balls, including nine fours.

With wickets then falling the retired players were able to come back in.

Fryers was run out for 10, Raven caught for 17 and Spokes hit a six before being caught for 28.

The highlight was the return of Jenkins, who hit City United's opening bowler straight back over his head first ball back for six to bring up a well-deserved 50; the first ever half century by a Pomborneit player in this competition.

Jenkins finished 55 not out from 26 balls and Coote unbeaten on 46 as the Bulls finished on 7/204 from their 30 overs.

An early run out from Jenkins and some fantastic bowling from Finn Huggins (0/4 from three overs) who was promoted to share the new ball with Coote, saw City United 1/16 from seven overs.

The home team then rallied with the bat and Pomborneit found wickets hard to come by as the night wore on.

Spokes took a wicket while Raven had his best under 14 bowling performance with 2/5 from four overs.

Joel Hinkley, in his second appearance at under 14 level, also impressed with 1/10 from four overs as City United was restricted to 5/121 from its 30 overs.
