Have you thought about volunteering?
THE Timboon fire brigade has welcomed a number of new members after several years of restrictions on recruitment and training.

THE Timboon fire brigade has welcomed a number of new members after several years of restrictions on recruitment and training.
However, there is always room for more members to help protect the community.
“It’s great that we have new people signing up after limited opportunities to grow the brigade in recent years,” brigade captain Doug Jones said.
“New members have settled in really well and they are adding to a really positive culture and there is still room for more people.”
Mr Jones said the brigade has a strong, inclusive culture and welcomes people from diverse backgrounds.
New recruit, Howard Meeks, joined the brigade as part of his transition to semi-retirement.
“I have some more time to put into volunteering and CFA is a great way to give back to the community” he said.
Pago Moraitis recently transferred to the brigade after joining the CFA in Apollo Bay.
“I’m new to town and it’s a great way to connect with locals and learn new skills,” he said.
Fellow new recruit Elle Bryant joined the brigade during the pandemic.
“The training was a bit slow when restrictions were on but the brigade has been really welcoming,” she said.
“We have had a good group of female firefighters but more are definitely wanted.”
Mr Jones encouraged community members to consider joining the unit.
“People can volunteer for firefighting and non-operational roles,” he said.
“We have a job to suit everyone.”
Residents interested in joining the Timboon brigade can submit an expression of interest on the CFA website -
