CORANGAMITE Shire Council has called for input on the redesign of the Derrinallum Transfer Station.

Council is in the early stages of planning a redesign of the Derrinallum Transfer Station and will hold a number of drop-in sessions this week.

The redesign plan, which has been developed with contractor Senversa, will seek to:

• Improve the user experience and safety of customers through clear traffic management at the unloading areas and one way traffic when exiting the facility;

• Improve waste separation and allow intervention by the transfer station attendant for redirection of recyclable goods and checking for hazardous wastes; and

• Improve general amenity to the Mount Elephant walking route.

The Derrinallum Transfer Station is located on the western side of Mount Elephant near Derrinallum.

The transfer station has been in operation since the late 1990s.

Prior to this there was a small landfill located to the north of the current transfer station area.

The transfer station services the Derrinallum community receiving around 100 tonnes of waste per annum and other recyclables.

Residents can learn more about the project and have their say at three drop-in sessions:

• Derrinallum, Friday, December 2 (today) between 8.30am and 10am at the Derrinallum FoodWorks;

• Lismore, Friday, December 2 (today) between 10.30am and 12noon at the Lismore FoodWorks; and

• A community information session on Sunday, December 4 between 1pm and 5pm at the Derrinallum transfer station at 240 Heards Road, Derrinallum.

View the full plan and complete the survey at https://www.corangamite.vic.gov.au/derrinallum-ts-redesign.

Consultation closes Friday, December 16 at 5 pm.
