Help Timboon celebrate 150 years

A CHANCE finding while scouring through Timboon history at Heytesbury Historical Society’s hall in Port Campbell 18 months ago led Timboon Action president Heather Martin to the realisation that Timboon was about to celebrate a huge milestone

She said Timboon is coming up to its Sesquicentenary – or 150th birthday.

“Lock it in your diary for the long weekend March 7 to 10, 2025, where we’ll celebrate where we’ve come from, where we’re at and where we’re heading,” Ms Martin said.

As long-standing community advocate Joy Kerr recalls, 1975 was a great year for Timboon.

She said the holiday Monday in March saw a street parade and fun and games at the Recreation Reserve as the culmination of the celebrations of the centenary of the settlement of Timboon.

There were floats, decorated bicycles and prams. People watched the parade wind its way around the shopping centre and then make its way to the recreation reserve with the crowd following, mainly on foot.

Ms Martin said 1975 was 49 years ago so it is now time to get together to plan the celebration of Timboon’s Sesquicentenary in March 2025.

“This is a community celebration so we would love to include as many facets of the community as possible to make it a truly memorable occasion,” she said.

“Those who can remember what happened 50 years ago, those who want to have a great celebration, those who have experienced Timboon in one way or another, those who have great ideas.

“Everyone is welcome to come along to the Timboon Senior Citizen’s Clubrooms on Friday, May 31 at 6.30pm to find out what is happening and contribute.

“If you’re unable to make it, please send your suggestions, queries and offers of help to 150@timboonaction.com.au as the email created to be the central point for all Sesquicentennial related communications.”
