Help Timboon mark 150 years
IT is not often you celebrate turning 150 years-old.
With much enthusiasm and plenty of ideas, planning for Timboon's 150th birthday next March is well under way.
A committee leading the celebrations has been formed which includes:
Chairperson - Enid O’Connor;
Secretary - Leeanne Whitehead;
Treasurer - Russell White;
Assistant treasurer - Jodie Couch; and
General committee - Donna Ellis (publicity officer), Corry Kerr and Faye Groves.
A positive start has been made for an action packed, fun filled weekend of events from a Saturday night Cabaret, historical displays, music, market, sporting events culminating in float parade and community picnic on the Monday.
Mrs O’Connor said the committee’s role is planning and coordination of the event and called on community clubs and organisations to offer ideas of activities they can host and run to add to the celebrations.
“The committee would like community groups to plan activities and events for the weekend,” she said.
“Therefore, we’re asking for expressions of interest from groups, businesses and individuals for their ideas.
“Please bring your ideas to our next community meeting on Wednesday, July 17 at 7pm at the Senior Citizens.
“If you’re unable to attend on that night, please forward your ideas to timboon150@gmail.com.”
Timboon’s 150th birthday will be celebrated over March 8-10, with the community encouraged to put the date in their diaries now and be sure to celebrate what makes Timboon special.
