COBDEN’S crown jewel – Lake Cobden – could be at risk if more people don’t put up their hands to help maintain the asset.

Councillor Jo Beard is inviting the wider community to attend a rescheduled working bee at the lake today between 5pm and 7pm.

“There is a few pressing projects that need attention,” she said.

“I was part of the original group that started the works at the lake 13 years ago and we have all either aged or not as fit as we used to be.

“We need other people to come along and support that work so we can ensure the lake remains as special as it is.

“We’ve come so far and we don’t want to see it go back to where it was.”

Cr Beard said there was always plenty of feedback about the maintenance surrounding the lake, but “we need the people to actually put their hands up to do it”.

Works on the agenda for today’s working bee including repainting of the jetty railing and general weeding around the much loved community asset.

Cr Beard said a barbecue would be provided for those attending the working bee

“I’m going to cook the barbecue as my contribution if people want to come along for a light tea and help out,” she said.

Cr Beard said if people could not help at the working bee, there was an option to still make a difference with people able to complete works in their own time.
