Hexham’s hall receives boost

REALISING plans for Hexham’s Community Renovation Project took another step earlier this week, with a $2300 Federal Government grant announcement.
Federal Member for Wannon Dan Tehan announced the funding commitment towards the Hexham Community Association through the Government’s Volunteer Grants Program last Tuesday.
“It is wonderful to see this funding coming here to Hexham,” he said.
“The Coalition Government’s strong economic management is why we can afford to provide the essential services Australian rely on and support the great work of our volunteers, such as those here in Hexham.”
Hexham Community Association vice-president Neddie Humber said the aim was to create a new building connected to the existing State School building to reinvigorate a sense of community within the area.
“It will become usable as a community hub,” she said.
The new facility would maintain the aesthetics of the current building, with the same alignment and high pitch roof, but would also include a deck and toilet facilities.
Association secretary Libby Jubb said the community had already raised about $15,000 towards the $130,000 of community contributions needed through a range of local fundraising efforts and events.
Mr Tehan said the contribution was a way to give back to the Hexham volunteers who spend hundreds of hours advocating for progress.
“The Hexham Community Association is doing important work here and it is pleasing to see this funding going towards new tables and chairs for their community hall,” he said.
“The enormous value of volunteering is estimated at $290 billion per year.
“Australia’s 8.7 million volunteers and their organisations are the backbone of community life. Volunteers embody the best of our community with thousands of people regularly volunteering their skills, services and time to make life in Hexham better for those around them.”
