Councillors voted to approve an application under the Business Assistance Scheme (BAS) at last month’s Ordinary Meeting of Council.

Shire manager economy and property Katy McMahon said the BAS enabled council to support local businesses, community enterprises, creative industries and new businesses looking to establish in the municipality.

“The BAS scheme is an ongoing grant and business support scheme that is open for applications year-round,” she said.

“Council officers work with applicants to enable applications to be ‘grant ready’.

“Applications are assessed against the relevant stream criteria and evaluated by an assessment panel.

“Applications are assessed to ensure they meet all assessment criteria and align with the objectives of the program and if so, are recommended for approval.”

Heytesbury House owners lodged an application under the stream two – creative industries and placemaking category.

Ms McMahon the funding would be used on a community event celebrating 120 years since the opening of Heytesbury House.

“The August application from Heytesbury House meets the objectives of the BAS program and contributes to the growth and prosperity of Corangamite and is recommended for support,” she said.

Cr Jo Beard welcomed the funding application and was happy to support it.

She said while the property was now a luxurious Bed and Breakfast, the history of the property had not been lost.
