Heytesbury indoor bias bowls association

ROUND six of pennant action saw Timboon Lawn 2 host Camperdown 1 in division one.

ROUND six of pennant action saw Timboon Lawn 2 host Camperdown 1 in division one.

The match was quite one-sided with the home side scoring 23 shots for the first 11 ends.

Timboon Lawn 2 defeated Camperdown 1, 29-13.

Timboon Lawn 1 hosted Cobden 1 and the match started out pretty even with the home side scoring three shots to the visitors’ two shots in the first three ends of the match.

A sextuplet scored by Timboon Lawn 1 opened up the match for the home side, but Cobden 1 started coming back towards the end.

Timboon Lawn 1 defeated Cobden 1, 18-13.

Also in division one, Glenormiston 1 played host to Laang-Ecklin.

The visitors started the first four ends of the match with nine shots before the home side broke the cycle on end five.

Laang-Ecklin kept pushing forward, before Glenormiston 1 started picking up multiples towards the end.

Glenormiston 1 lost to Laang-Ecklin 15-18.

Rounding out the division one coverage, Scotts Creek 1 hosted Camperdown 2.

The home side picked up 10 shots in the first five ends to the visitors’ three shots until the next end when Camperdown 2 picked up a triple on the replay to trail 7-10.

Scotts Creek 1 defeated Camperdown 2, 32-17.

Division one top four are Scotts Creek 1, Timboon Lawn 1, Laang-Ecklin and Timboon Lawn 2.

This week’s division two bye was Mepunga 2.

Action kicks off with Simpson 1 hosting Mepunga 1 and both sides were even at six-all after the first five ends of the match.

Mepunga 1 started to break away in the mid-section but finished behind Mepunga 1, losing 14-23.

Simpson 2 hosted Timboon Lawn 4 and the match was pretty even with both teams at seven shots each on end seven and 11-all after nine ends.

Simpson 2 kicked up a gear and scored freely, defeating Timboon Lawn 4, 25-16.

Also in division two, Timboon Lawn 3 hosted Glenormiston 2.

Both sides started off with six shots each in the first eight ends of the match but the visitors couldn’t add much after that, with Timboon Lawn 3 defeating Glenormiston 2, 25-9.

Division two top four this week are Mepunga 1, Mepunga 2, Simpson 1 and Simpson 2.

In division three, Glenormiston 3 hosted Timboon Lawn 5.

The visitors scored three shots to the home sides’ four in the first four ends of the match.

Try as they might, the visitors found it difficult to keep shots, with Glenormiston 3 defeating Timboon Lawn 5, 30-11.

In the battle of the Scotts Creeks – 2 v 3 - the “visitors” shot out of the blocks, keeping the home side to within eight shots.

Scotts Creek 2 lost to Scotts Creek 3, 12-24.

Peterborough played host to Cobden 2 and the visitors were in control for the duration of the match, getting off to a blinder.

Peterborough lost to Cobden 2, 13-27.

Division three top four this week are Cobden 2, Scotts Creek 3, Glenormiston 3 and Peterborough.

A reminder to all teams to send in clear, legible pictures of completed, matching, full player names and signed scorecards to pennant secretary Kathryn on 0409 013 720.

Last weekend saw the start of the VIBBA state events in Warrnambool for the first time, with a double header – mixed pairs on Saturday and mixed fours on Sunday.

While the Heytesbury teams fought valiantly in the VIBBA mixed pairs, there were no teams that made it past the third round.

In the VIBBA mixed fours, one team from Heytesbury made it to the finals - the team of Peter Baker, Pam Wines, Max Wines and Kathryn Wines.

Well done to all the Heytesbury teams that played at Warrnambool.

The next event on the VIBBA calendar is the women’s andmen’s singles at Sunshine.

Good luck to Harmony, Noah Mungean, Arthur Finch and Scott Pierce who will represent Heytesbury on Sunday, June 4.

The teams for the Ballarat Intergroup Championship on Saturday, June 10 to Monday June 12 over the King’s birthday weekend are as follows:

Women

Singles: Jean Clover; pairs: Pam Dwyer (s) and Lara Mungean; triples: Pam Wines (s), Val Blake and Deb Noonan; fours: Doreen Coverdale (s), Dawn McDowell, Roelie Maslin and Marlene Page.

Mixed

Pairs: Peter Baker (s) and Joyce Roberts; fours: George Fox (s), Les Pearson, Rita Mungean/Ron Absalom and Pam Savage.

Men

Singles: Arthur Finch; pairs: Allen Armistead (s) and Noah Mungean; triples: Harvey Robbins (s), Neville Page and Scott Pierce; fours: Ron Simcox (s), Jim Mungean, Graeme Chamberlain and Ray Bond.

Managers: Max Wines and Rita Mungean.

Players are asked to please pay treasurer Joyce $25 for entry.

Entries are now being accepted for the Heytesbury Annual Mixed Fours Tournament at Timboon Sporting Stadium on Saturday, June 24.

This will start at 10am, with a cost of $40 per team - tea, coffee and afternoon tea will be provided.

A soup and sandwich lunch will be available for purchase on the day.
