This week in Heytesbury the machine is starting to fire up and assemble the indoor bowlers.
Let’s start with round four pennant action from last Wednesday.
Starting this week’s division one coverage, we have Timboon Lawn (1) hosting Cobden (1) and the home side started off their match a six-pack mix of singles and doubles, before the visitors could start their campaign with a single on end seven.
Timboon Lawn 1 then continued on their merry way, adding eleven shots on the next 5 ends. On the end that’s lucky for some, Cobden’s skip Glenn found out the hard way – taking jack for a holiday away from the felt and Timboon Lawn scored a six on the replay. The visitors would score five more shots for the rest of the match, with Timboon Lawn (1) defeating Cobden (1) 38-6.
The next match was Laang-Ecklin hosting Camperdown (2) and the home side opened the match with a single, before the visitors started their campaign with seven shots on ends 2 through 4.
On the next end Camperdown skip Ron C sent the jack away from safety but scored a single on the replay to lead 8-5.
Camperdown continued with their mission, scoring four shots on the following three ends, extending their lead 12-5.
Singles either way progressed the match further but the home team started to pick up, with a triple of singles on as many ends, to be within four with five ends to play.
Camperdown scored a triple and two singles with two ends to play, leaving Laang-Ecklin nine shots to tie in two ends.
On the penultimate end they managed to secure a most valuable six-bagger to trail by three into the last end.
A massive late charge was on the cards for Laang-Ecklin and they scored a double to be so close. Laang-Ecklin lost in a heart-breaking defeat to Camperdown (2) 17-18.
The third match was The Battle of the Camperdowns – (1) hosting (3) and the “visitors” in Camperdown (3) opened the match with a single, until something shocking happened on the very next end.
Negotiations with Camperdown (3)’s third Michael and jack broke down early in the piece and Camperdown (1) scored a quad on the replay.
The home team continued their campaign, adding ten shots to the visitors five shots in ends three though nine.
Camperdown (1) kept up the scoring pressure, controlling all but end 15, where a welcome triple was secured by Camperdown (3).
On the penultimate end, between Camperdown (3)’s third Michael and Camperdown (1)’s skip Gary both offered jack alternative job opportunities off the mat and Camperdown (3) scored a single on the replay.
Camperdown (1) defeated Camperdown (3) 34-14.
Rounding out the division one coverage this week, was Scotts Creek (1) hosting Timboon Lawn (2) and both sides scored a pair of singles each in as many ends.
Timboon Lawn’s third Noah sent the jack off the mat but managed a single on the replay.
The home side continued with a pair of doubles on the next two ends. On end eight, Scotts Creek’s third Noelene cleared the jack but managed a quad to lead 13-6.
The following 5 ends belonged to the home side, adding eight shots to their ledger but on end 14, things took a turn. Timboon Lawn’s second Trevor escorted jack off the mat and Scotts Creek scored a single on the replay.
The visitors managed a pair of treasured triples for the remainder of the match however, Scotts Creek 1 defeated Timboon Lawn 2, 26-12.
Your Division one top four this week are: Timboon Lawn (1), Scotts Creek (1), Timboon Lawn (2), Camperdown (1).
This week’s division two action kicks off with Camperdown (4) hosting Glenormiston (1) and the match opened with Glenormiston second Noel running out of mat but redeeming themselves with a triple on the replay.
A single to the visitors kept the score rolling, while the home side started their attack with a triple and a single on ends three and four to lead 6-4.
A quad to the visitors on the next end lit the fire and they added a further seven shots on ends seven and eight, while the home side added a single on end six to trail 7-15.
Two shots either way on ends nine through 11 changed little until Camperdown mounted a late charge, scoring five shots on the next two ends and closing the gap to four shots with five ends to play.
Glenormiston defended their lead with three singles, to Camperdown (4)’s pair of singles and losing to Glenormiston (1) 16-20.
The next match was Scotts Creek (2) hosting Glenormiston (2) and the visitors opened the match with a single before the home side opened on the next end with a triple.
Glenormiston then dropped the hammer, scoring twelve shots on ends three to five, before Scotts Creek secured a single to halt the visitors’ momentum on end six.
Triples either way on the next two ends changed little, a single on end nine kept the home side in touch, 8-16.
The visitors weren’t done yet, adding a triple and a single on the next two ends, before doubles either way on ends 14 and 15 altered little.
With 5 ends to play, the visitors added a further three shots to the home side’s pair of singles. On the last end however, Scotts Creek’s skip Neville sent the jack into No Jack’s Land but managed a single on the replay.
Scotts Creek 2 lost to Glenormiston (2) 13-29.
Our next match was Simpson (1) hosting Timboon Lawn (3) and the home side opened the match with a triple, before the visitors scored a single on the next end.
Simpson then kicked off with eight shots on ends three through six, while Timboon Lawn scored a single on the following end.
The home side continued their campaign with a triple and a single on ends eight and nine, while the visitors secured a pair of singles on the next two ends.
Singles either way progressed the match forward, before Simpson scored a quad on end 14 to lead 20-5 with four ends to play.
The visitors scored four shots to close out the match, with Simpson (1) defeating Timboon Lawn (3) 21-9.
Closing out the division two coverage this week was Timboon Lawn (4) hosting Cobden (2) and the visitors launched their mission with six shots in the first four ends, before the home side opened their ledger with a double on end five.
Cobden picked up a further two shots on the next two ends, followed by a triple on end eight to Timboon Lawn trailing 5-8. Four shots both ways changed little in ends 8 through 12, until Timboon
Lawn scored a double and Cobden a single on the next two ends leading 13-8 with four ends to play.
And then the fightback started. Timboon Lawn picked up a double, single and another double with the last end to play, locking it up at thirteen all. Time seemed to stand still, with Timboon Lawn (4) defeating Cobden (2) 16-13.
Your division two top four this week are: Timboon Lawn (4), Glenormiston (2), Glenormiston (1), Simpson (1).
Division three coverage is right here and we start this week with Peterborough hosting Scotts Creek (3). The match started out with singles either way in as many ends.
Then the visitors leapt forward with seven shots on ends three through five to take an early lead.
The next four ends were tight as both sides scored four shots each, progressing the match forward.
Ends 10 through 14 were all Peterborough, adding nine shots to their score and taking the lead 14-12 with four ends to play.
Not to be outdone, Scotts Creek fought back with a quad and a single to re-take the lead 17-14 with two ends to play.
This was coming down to the wire and even more so as the home side scored a very valuable and timely triple to lock the match up at seventeen all with one end to play. In another nail-biting finish, Peterborough defeated Scotts Creek (3) 19-17.
The next match was Simpson (2) hosting Glenormiston (4) and the home team started the match with a pair of singles and a double before the visitors could score a single on end four.
Another pair of singles for Simpson resumed momentum and tragedy struck on end seven. Glenormiston skip Gerard sent jack off the mat, with Scotts Creek scoring a double on the replay.
Three shots either way on ends eight through 11 didn’t help the visitors’ cause, even less so when the home side scored a single and a triple on ends 12 and 13.
The comeback seemed somewhat real to the visitors, keeping the home team to a single for the remainder of the match, while scoring six much needed shots themselves. Simpson (2) def.
Glenormiston (4) 20-10.
Ending this week’s pennant coverage was Glenormiston (3) hosting Wiridjil and both sides scored six shots each in the first five ends of the match.
That was until end six when Wiridjil’s skip Ron cleaned up jack off the mat with a bowl that could have slid off of any one of the twelve bowls in its area yet didn’t even graze one of them and they picked up a single on the replay.
Another single on the next end kept the visitors in touch 8-10. Ends eight through 12 were close, with both sides picking up four shots each.
At this point, the match was anyone’s and the score isn’t truly reflective of the ding-dong battle. Nothing was left on the table but in the end, Glenormiston (3) defeated Wiridjil 35-12.
It should be noted that on one end in particular, Glenormiston were holding at least five shots with Wiridjil’s skip Ron to bowl and managed to get the shot. It was like this for the first 12 ends of the match.
A great effort by Wiridjil and well done to Glenormiston (3).
Your division three top four this week: Glenormiston (3), Glenormiston (4), Peterborough, Scotts Creek (3).
