Heytesbury Indoor Bias Bowls Association Notes
Just when you thought This Week in Heytesbury was done.
Just when you thought This Week in Heytesbury was done.
We’ll take a look at last week’s Association Pairs action, this week’s Association Fours preview and the VIBBA Champion of Champions last Sunday.
Last Wednesday at Timboon Lawn BC, the HIBBA Pairs Championships were held. This event is where the Club Pairs Champions compete against each other to see who are the HIBBA Pairs Champions.
Going from the top of the draw to the bottom, we start off Cobden – David Childs and Jeff Hester v Timboon Lawn – Pam Dwyer and Jean Clover.
Timboon Lawn controlled the first half of the match with twelve shots before Cobden got half of that back on ends eight through ten.
Timboon Lawn picked up a single to halt Cobden’s momentum and triples either way on ends 12 and 13 made the task more difficult.
Cobden lost to Timboon Lawn, 10-16.
The bottom half of the draw saw Scotts Creek – Allen Armistead and Joyce Lindquist v Glenormiston – Scott Pierce and David Ham.
Both sides got off to a measured start, securing a double each in turn for the first four ends of the match.
Scotts Creek kept the lock step with a single on the next end but so did Glenormiston with a double.
Scotts Creek then levelled the score at six all with a single on end seven.
Glenormiston then picked up a single on the next end and managed to lockout Scotts Creek from the rest of the match.
Honorable mention to Scotts Creek’s Joyce for educating jack abut life away from the mat.
Scotts Creek lost to Glenormiston, 6-22.
In the Semi Finals, Timboon Lawn then met up with Camperdown – Gary Body, Kelvin Rundle (sub) and Camperdown controlled the first five ends of the match, adding fourteen to their ledger before Timboon Lawn picked up a single on the next end.
Camperdown matched that on the next end, before Timboon Lawn picked up another single and a double on ends eight and nine to try and fight back.
That was unfortunately met with a triple from Camperdown on the next end and a no score on end 11 didn’t help Timboon Lawn’s cause.
Camperdown defeated Timboon Lawn, 19-6 and went on to meet the winner of the next match in the Grand Final.
The second half of the Semi Finals was Glenormiston v Simpson – Gary Langenhuizen, Harvey Robbins and Simpson opened the first two ends of the match with a double and a single.
Glenormiston joined the party on end three with a single but Simpson countered that with their single on the next end.
Glenormiston then picked up a pair of singles to remain within one shot but Simpson then picked up a double on end seven to extend their lead.
Unfortunately for Glenormiston’s David, took the jack took off the mat and Simpson picked up a quad on the replay.
Try as they might, Glenormiston would only pickup four more shots for the rest of the match.
Glenormiston losing to Simpson, 7-19.
The Final was set: Camperdown (Gary Body, Kelvin Rundle (sub)) v Simpson (Gary Langenhuizen, Harvey Robbins) and Simpson opened the first four ends of the match with a pair of singles, a quad and a triple.
Camperdown opened their account on the next end with a double but was quickly countered by Simpson with a double and a single on ends six and seven to lead 12-2.
Simpson faced with five down in the head on the next end, Gary had a difficult decision to make cut or take jack off the mat and replay the end.
The latter was the result but managed to gain Camperdown a triple on the replay to only trail by three shots.
Simpson’s Harvey took jack off the mat but managed a single on the replay to lead by two shots with five ends to play.
With renewed energy, Camperdown bagged a valuable quad on end ten, followed by a double on the next end to take the lead 17-13.
Simpson could only manage a single on end 12 for the rest of the match.
Camperdown defeated Simpson, 19-14.
Congratulations to the 2022 HIBBA Pairs Champions, Gary Body and Kelvin Rundle and well done to runners-up Simpson’s Gary Langenhuizen and Harvey Robbins.
Yesterday (Wednesday) we’ll take a preview of the HIBBA Fours Championship being held at Camperdown BC at 7.00pm: Camperdown – Roelie Maslin, John Morgan, Patsy Neal, Les Pearson(s) v Glenormiston – Jenny Meade (sub), David Ham, Jim Wallace, Scott Pierce(s) and Simpson – Peita van Donk, Scott Ryan, Harvey Robbins, Lyndon Rogerson(s) v Cobden – Pam Savage, Cody Childs, Doreen Coverdale, David Childs(s).
The winner of Camperdown v Glenormiston will meet in the Semi Finals – Scotts Creek – Helen Hobbs, Noelene Richards, Joan Laing, Allen Armistead(s) and the winner of the Simpson v Cobden match will meet Timboon Lawn – Trevor Coburn, Jacoba Mungean, Murray Lucas, Arthur Finch(s).
Good luck to all the teams and we’ll bring you the action here next week.
Last Sunday, the VIBBA Champion of Champions were held at Sunshine and Heytesbury had two representatives – 2022 HIBBA Champion of Champions Pam Wines and Arthur Finch.
We’ll go round by round and Arthur had a bye in the first round, advancing into the semi-finals.
Pam didn’t have such luxury as the Women’s Champion of Champions draw were all present.
Pam played Maureen Drennan (Warrnambool) in the first round and managed to progress to the semi-finals with a win.
In the semi-finals, Arthur met Rodney Jones (Eastern) and had a convincing win to book a berth in the final.
For Pam, her match with Elaine Pitts (Ballarat) went well and Pam booked her place in the finals.
In the VIBBA Champion of Champions Grand Final, Arthur met Glenn Sargent (Bacchus Marsh) and won 19- 14.
Pam met with Karen Brodie (South Group) and won her match 21-11.
When asked about the match, Pam said that the match was pretty even throughout until she scored a quad on end 17 or 18 and only then felt somewhat comfortable.
Congratulations to our 2022 VIBBA Ladies Champion of Champions Pam Wines and 2022 VIBBA Mens Champion of Champions Arthur Finch!
See you next week.
