ROUND three of Heytesbury pennant saw the ‘battle of the Camperdowns’ in division one.

Camperdown 2 started off well, picking up six shots to Camperdown 1’s pair of singles in the first four ends before 1 picked up a single on the replay to trail by one.

Even by end nine, the sides were close with the home side picking up six shots to the visitors’ eight but that’s where the story ends.

Camperdown 1 lost to Camperdown 2, 12-28.

Glenormiston 1 played host to Timboon Lawn 1 and while the home side scored four shots in the opening nine ends of the match, the visitors picked up 12 shots.

Unfortunately for Glenormiston 1, Timboon Lawn 1 picked up a single on the replay.

Over the next six ends, Glenormiston 1 fought back with 10 shots to Timboon Lawn 1’s five shots until a sextuplet to Glenormiston 1 kept the dream alive, trailing by one shot on the last end.

Despite the fightback, Glenormiston 1 lost to Timboon Lawn 1, 21-23.

In the third match, Scotts Creek 1 played host to Cobden 1 and on end four managed a single on the replay to trail by four.

The home side maintained the attack, 12 shots to the visitors’ three shots on ends five through 13.

On end 14 Scotts Creek 1 picked up a triple on the replay and defeated Cobden 1, 30- 13.

Rounding out division one, Timboon Lawn 2 hosted Laang-Ecklin and the first eight ends of the match resulted on the visitors scoring five shots to the home sides’ seven.

Singles either way changed little but then Timboon Lawn 2 attacked, adding seven shots to their scoreline and nine shots up with four ends to play.

Laang-Ecklin needed to make a move and they did exactly that – picking up a double, single, triple and a quad to see Timboon Lawn 2 defeated by Laang-Ecklin, 15-16.

In division two Timboon Lawn 3 had the bye this week while Mepunga 1 hosted Timboon Lawn 4.

Both sides scored two shots in the first three ends of the match.

Mepunga 1 had a run on, scoring six shots on ends four through eight.

Timboon Lawn 4 replied with seven shots to Mepunga 1’s three shots in ends nine through 17 to be three up on the last end.

Unfortunately for Mepunga 1’s third Karl, jack decided to walk off the mat which levelled the match.

On the replay, Mepunga 1 defeated Timboon Lawn 4, 13-12.

Simpson 1 hosted Glenormiston 2 and both teams picked up five shots in the first five ends of the match.

The visitors then broke the silence with four shots to the home sides single on ends six through nine to lead 9-6.

Doubles either way on the next two ends changed little then Simpson 1 picked up six shots on ends 12 through 14 to take the lead 14-11.

A double kept the visitors within one shot but the home side picked up a pair of quads on the next two ends, with Simpson 1 defeating Glenormiston 2, 22-14.

Simpson 2 hosted Mepunga 2.

Both sides were even through the first seven ends of the match, with Mepunga 2 leading 7-6.

A single, quad and double to the home side helped extend their lead over the next three ends, until the visitors picked up a trio of singles on ends 11 through 14 and kept the home side to a double.

A no-score on end 15 didn’t help Simpson 2’s cause but they kept Mepunga 2 scoreless for the rest of the match.

Simpson 2 lost to Mepunga 2, 14- 16.

In division three Timboon Lawn 5 hosted Peterborough.

The visitors started off strong, picking up seven shots to the home team’s four shots in the first nine ends.

Timboon Lawn 5 then picked up a quad and a single to take the lead 9-7 and singles either way on ends 12 and 13 changed little.

Unfortunately for Timboon Lawn 5, Peterborough scored a single on the replay to retake the lead 11-10.

The home side picked up a pair of singles to the visitors single, levelling the match at 12 all with a one-end shootout.

Timboon Lawn 5 lost to Peterborough, 12-15.

Scotts Creek 3 hosted Cobden 2 and the home side opened the match with 13 shots in the first three ends for the match, before the visitors picked up a single to open their account.

Ends five through 10 didn’t change much with both sides picking up seven shots each.

Last Sunday a contingent of Heytesbury players went across to Sebastapol Bowls Club for the Ballarat social visit and a great day was had by all.

The best for Heytesbury was the team skippered by Peter Baker with three wins for the day.

Thanks to Max Wines for driving the bus, despite the potholes and lakes on our roads.
