ALMOST 70 people enjoyed a presentation night at Cobden Golf Club for Heytesbury indoor bowls.
Peter Baker spoke of the association’s history, which dates back to September 1963.
The first annual meeting was held in March the following year and shortly after eight teams (Timboon, Scotts Creek, Cobrico and Cobden) contested seven rounds of mixed pennant competition and 20 live ends.
In 1966 Port Campbell joined Heytesbury and it became a 12 team competition.
A year later Camperdown joined, followed by Simpson in 1970 and Chappelvale in 1972.
Pennant grew to an 18-team competition and by 1974 division one had grown to 20 teams so a division two competition was born the following year.
In 1983 the pennant competition expanded to three divisions and the first uniform was worn.
Between 1992 and 1997, Heytesbury had 36 teams in the pennant competition across three divisions and in 1997 Laang joined Heytesbury just as Port Campbell left, ending a 31-year run.
Following his informative talk, Peter congratulated Heytesbury players who had represented the association at state and national level, as well at the Ballarat Intergroup Championship and what was the Echuca Tournament.
Heytesbury president Max Wines then presented Peter Baker with a Life Membership for Peter’s almost 50-year service to Heytesbury.
Presentations were made for the 2023 season.
