High abilities at C’down College
STAFF and students at the senior campus of Camperdown College are being showcased as part of the Victorian High Ability Program (VHAP) toolkit.

STAFF and students at the senior campus of Camperdown College are being showcased as part of the Victorian High Ability Program (VHAP) toolkit.
A video detailing the High Abilities Program has been released and forms part of the Department of Education online toolkit for staff across the state to access.
The system uses a Grade Point Average (GPA) score from a possible four and assesses a student’s persistence, behaviour, preparation and organisation.
High Abilities Program leader Sarah Brooks says the GPA system has been “hugely” successful for Camperdown College and they are “thrilled” to be showcased across the state.
“Knowing that our program is now part of a State Education toolkit is very rewarding,” she said.
“We obviously don’t do any of this for the accolades or attention but it is nice to be recognised that we are achieving great things right here in Camperdown, and we are leading the way for other schools to follow.”
The College works to a six weekly reporting cycle where goals are set to encourage a growth mindset and targeted intervention is provided to assist each student with their personal goals.
“We’re a school that celebrates the journey, not just success, so for a student to understand where they need growth and six weeks later they’ve achieved that result; that’s worth celebrating,” Ms Brooks said.
While cameras were onsite filming the High Abilities Program, the college also participated in two videos relating to the importance of libraries and differentiating using a developmental continuum.
