WANNON Water employee Matthew Boyle has been named Victoria’s Network Operator of the Year.

Mr Boyle, who lives in Cobden, is a civil maintenance operator based at the Camperdown depot where he supports the team to maintain water and sewerage systems across the district.

Wannon Water managing director Andrew Jeffers said Mr Boyle’s work ethic saw him selected to participate as Wannon Water’s representative on the Network Operator Development Program in 2020.

The program identifies, mentors and develops future leaders in the network operations field across the Victorian water industry.

The program committee selected Mr Boyle as the winner of Network Operator of the Year which was announced during the Water Industry Association of Australia (WIOA) conference in Bendigo last week.

The Victorian Network Operator of the Year Award was sponsored by Water Training Australia and included a $3000 training package for the winner.

Mr Jeffers said the award was “well deserved”.

“It’s fantastic recognition of Matthew’s commitment and dedication to ensure our customers receive reliable and high quality services,” he said.

Mr Boyle said he was thrilled to have been selected as the winner of the Network Operator of the Year Award and have the chance to further his development in the water industry.

“After qualifying as a plumber and working with a private contractor, I took the opportunity to join Wannon Water six years ago,” he said.

“I work here in Camperdown with a great little team who are all focused on providing quality services that make our region a great place to live.

“I’d like to thank Water Training Australia, WIOA, my fellow team members and Wannon Water for putting their faith in me.”

WIOA is the peak body for people who serve in operational roles in the water industry.

The national, non-for-profit association supports the sharing of quality information between people undertaking operational roles in the water, wastewater and recycled water industries.
