High rainfall lashes region

THE highest monthly rainfall in years was recorded during October for Terang and Mortlake.

THE highest monthly rainfall in years was recorded during October for Terang and Mortlake.

Victoria was lashed with high rainfall during October which caused widespread flooding and a record number of VICSES callouts.

Terang experienced 131.2mm of rainfall during the month, the highest total for the year.

The figure marked a sharp increase on the long-term expected average of 71.6mm for October.

The highest daily rainfall was recorded on October 13, with 31.6mm hitting the ground.

The total monthly rainfall marked the fourth highest monthly rainfall experienced in Terang through the last two decades, with higher monthly rainfall recorded in September 2017 (139.4mm), August 2010 (196.6mm) and June 2004 (150.4mm).

The figure was an increase on the previous year, with 113mm of rain recorded inOctober 2021.

Meanwhile in Mortlake, a total of 146.8mm of rainfall was recorded throughout the month.

The figure almost tripled the long-term expected average of 56.6mm for October.

The highest daily rainfall occurred on October 13, with 50mm recorded.

The total also surpassed the October 2021 result of 95.8mm.

The overall volume of rainfall was the highest since August 2010, when 167mm of rainfall hit the ground in Mortlake.
