High rainfall recorded

A LATE storm has surged rainfall figures above the long-term monthly average for August in both Terang and Mortlake.

August historically represents the wettest month of the year but remained relatively calm until heavy storms arrived during the final days of the month.

A total of 108.6mm of rainfall was recorded in Terang, surpassing the long-term averageof 92.4mm.

The highest daily rainfall was recorded on August 30, when 22mm hit the ground.

The monthly figure represents a sharp increase on the previous year, when 73.4mm hit the ground.

With spring now having arrived, the total rainfall tally for winter was 296.8mm.

The overall rainfall tally in Terang on the year stands at 532.8mm.

Meanwhile in Mortlake, 79mm of rainfall was recorded during the month.

This passed the long-term monthly average of 66.6mm.

The highest daily rainfall was recorded on August 30, with 17.8mm hitting the ground.

The result was an increase on the same period last year, with 54mm of rain falling in August 2021.

Mortlake experienced a total of 216.6mm of rainfall during winter, bringing the annual rainfall total so far to 411.4mm.
