A LOSS to Koroit last weekend has seen the Cobden Bombers slip to seventh on the Hampden League ladder.
The Bombers, now sitting half a game behind Camperdown and the fifth-placed Warrnambool Blues, fell just five points short of victory over the fast-improving Saints.
Playing at Victoria Park last Saturday, the Bombers got off to a great start, outscoring the Saints 3.5 to 2.2 in the first term and then went into the main break with an eight-point lead.
The third term was another close one, with the Saints working hard to get within three points at three-quarter time.
And in a low-scoring final quarter the Saints took it home, adding one goal three while containing the Bombers to a single point.
Final scores were Koroit 6.11.47 to Cobden 5.12.42.
Best for the Bombers were Jack Hammond, Brody Mahoney, Paul Pekin, Patrick Smith, Mark Marriott and Jordan Fowler.
Michael Koroneos kicked two for the Bombers and was supported by team-mates Jack Hammond, Luke Smith and Patrick Smith with one each.
In the reserves the Bombers came home strong to win 10.9.69 to 3.5.23, holding on to top spot on the ladder, just percentage ahead of South Warrnambool.
Harry Darcy, Thomas Darcy and Jack McGalde each kicked two goals for the Bombers, while Louis Cahill, Matt Clarke, Sam Darcy and Brady Green each added one to the board.
Best for the team were Louis Cahill, Liam Loubey, Tom Mahoney, Sam Sarcy, Ryleigh McVilly.
Cobden’s under 18.5s also sit just outside the five, four points behind North Warrnambool, after going down to the Saints by 21 points last weekend, 6.4.40 to 2.7.19.
Best for the Bombers were Jonty Robertson, Brodie Foster, Angus Molan, Blake Mottram, Gus Walsh and Stephen Benallack.
Darcy Hutchins and Jesse Wason kicked a goal each for the Bombers.
Cobden’s netballers had a mixed bag of results last weekend.
Open – Cobden defeated Koroit 44-41. Best players: Sarah Moroney, Alicia Blain and Nadine McNamara.
Division one – Cobden defeated Koroit 43-33. Best: Grace Taylor and Molly Hutt.
Division two – Koroit defeated Cobden 38-24. Best players: Erin Fahey, Emily Darcy and Hannah Justin.
Division three – Koroit defeated Cobden 39-35. Best for the Bombers were Grace Dawson and Tayla Hickey.
17 and under – Cobden lost to Koroit 36-44. Best players: Kate Smith, Matilda Darcy and Nikki Clover.
17 and under reserves – Cobden defeated Koroit 38-16. Best for the Bombers: Shelby Cameron, Chloe Cameron and Charlotte Bennett.
15 and under – Koroit defeated Cobden 40-25. Best players were Emily Hickey, Milla Darcy and Victoria Buckle.
13 and under – Koroit defeated Cobden 41-11. Best for the Bombers was Daisy Bennett.
