Hospital Auxiliary opening Spring Catalogue
CAMPERDOWN and District Hospital Auxiliary is making final preparations for its annual art exhibition fundraiser next week.
The exhibition, A Spring Catalogue, will showcase a variety of Australian artworks ranging from still life to landscapes and life drawing.
Camperdown and District Hospital Auxiliary member Matt Clark said the selection of art for this year’s exhibition was “excellent”, with something for everyone.
“We’ve got two art dealers that supply us with Australian collectable art to exhibit in our fundraiser for the Hospital Auxiliary,” he said.
“We have Doug Kane and Andrew Miller, who supply us with 25 works each, and then we hang the exhibition down at the Parish Hall in Church Street and display it over three days.
“Ian Currell and I are part of the Hospital Auxiliary, and we have raised money for the hospital for the last 50 years.
“I think that it’s important that people don’t need to think that they need to be an art enthusiast or know about art to come along and have a good social night.”
The exhibition will run from Friday, August 30 to Sunday, September 1, with a grand opening on the Friday night.
Mr Clark said he hoped for people to attend the opening on the Friday night from 6.30pm, when the main fundraising takes place.
“The big social night of the weekend is the Friday night, the grand opening of the art show,” he said.
“It’s a social event as well as an art exhibition and fundraising.
“A portion of the sales goes towards our fundraising towards donating money back to the hospital.
“There’re will be nibbles and drinks on the night, and it’s a regular social occasion on the calendar.”
The exhibition will also run on Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 3pm, with a portion of all art sales going towards a big donation.
“We have allocated money and are hoping to raise more money to purchase a room in Merindah Lodge, and that’s a significant donation,” Mr Clark said.
“That’s our main goal at the moment, but there’s always a wish list from the hospital of purchases.
“We visit that once or twice a year to see what we can donate.”
Mr Clark encouraged residents to book their tickets to the opening night early.
“We encourage, and we see, year after year, people from all walks of life - from people who are art enthusiasts to people who just like a social night out, to those who just want to support the hospital – there’s not set range or scope of people that can come along,” he said.
“It’s well and truly open to everybody, and it’s a great night and a great chance to mix and mingle for that reason.
“If they like something and choose to buy something, that’s awesome. If they just come along and have a great night, that’s good as well.
“It’s always a great thing to raise money for your local hospital, because one day you will mostly likely need it.”
