Ideal conditions for Robbie Burns Ambrose

IDEAL conditions greeted players at Camperdown Golf Club’s annual Robbie Burns ambrose competition last Sunday.

With the course in beautiful condition, and the sun shining, 96 players were once again led out by piper Dr John Menzies.

The players were divided into 24 teams, with golfers from far and wide supporting the event.

Winners, with the best gross score of 61 off the stick, was a local team comprising Neville Swayne, Luke Clarke, Isaac Stephens and Paul Stephens.

Travelling all the way from Pakenham, the men’s team with the best nett score of 54 6/8ths was James Webb, Luke Rodgers, Russell Savige and Doug Ward.

Runners-up with 59 6/8ths was the local team comprising Connor Jackson, Lewis O’Neil, Jeremy Lucas and Nathan Moran.

The best nett score by a mixed team was an outstanding 51 2/8ths carded by David and Kerri Absolom with their guests Cameron Stokes and Nick Skewes.

The runner-up mixed team with 56 1/8th was a family affair with Jess, Benn and Tom Moulden, along with Jack Kerr.

Nearest the pins: 2nd Brendan Lum (Ballarat), 15th Paul Hanson (Colac), 17th Gabby Gill, 9th golden hole Ash Couch (Cobden).

Straightest drive went to Warrnambool’s Leanne Ower, the longest putt to James Webb (Pakenham) and the best dressed was Steve Douglas.
