Indoor bowls commences
LAST week saw the opening tournament for Heytesbury Indoor Bias Bowls.
Held at Simpson hall on Wednesday, the tournament attracted 56 players.
Fourteen teams of fours (on seven mats) battled it out for opening day glory.
After the first round, there were two drawn matches along with the five winners.
After round two, there was only one side with two wins and three with 1.5 wins (a win and a draw), but still two drawn matches.
After the final round, there were still two draws and the picture became a lot clearer - there were no three game winners.
In the end, there was two teams with two wins and a draw, both on 72 points.
On a countback of shots up, congratulations to the team of Deb Cheslett, Les Neale, Neville Page and Brett Mungean with +9 shots and well done to runners-up Joyce Lindquist, Gerrit Becker, Kelvin Rundle and Scott Pierce with +5 shots.
After presentations were made by the immediate past president Allen Armistead, supper was provided and a chance to catch up with friends away from the mat.
A good night was had by all and thanks to everyone who helped setup and pack down.
The next major event started this Wednesday with the commencement of the 2024 pennant season.
There has been a late change to the draw - Timboon Lawn 5 in division three is now a bye.
There is a revised draw posted on the Facebook group or alternatively, your club secretary will have the revised draw “v1b”.
Good luck to all teams and don't forget to send photos of the cards to pennant secretary Kathryn (0409 013 720) and action shots to Scott (0418 218 547).
Just a reminder for clubs to submit their player list before play starts if they haven’t already done so.
This Saturday sees Heytesbury celebrate its 60th birthday at Cobden Golf Club.
The cost will be $30 per head and drinks at bar prices.
Anyone interested should contact their club secretary as soon as possible.
One last reminder this week as the end of the month rapidly approaches, entries for the Ballarat social visit at Simpson Hall on Sunday, May 5 will close on Tuesday, April 30.
