Twenty-seven year-old James Inglis is a relative newcomer to Sprintcar racing, but his family’s involvement in the sport dates back decades.
His grandfather Bill Inglis is a life member of the Premier Speedway Club, where this weekend James will compete in his second Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic.
The former Mortlake local now calls Western Australia home where he competes on a regular basis in the state’s domestic series, until shifting focus to the hotbed of Sprintcar racing on the country’s east coast throughout the summer months.
In his two starts so far this season at Premier Speedway with World Series Sprintcars, Inglis qualified for both A-Main events, recording 10th and 14th place finishes in 40 plus car fields.
However this weekend presents a far greater challenge, with 102 drivers including five of America’s best taking centre stage on the famed clay banks.
Inglis will first hit the track for his qualifying night on Saturday, where he needs to be among the top 48 cars in points to make the cut for Sunday night’s program.
Other Western District drivers taking their shot at glory this weekend include Ecklin’s Jack Lee, Simpson veteran John Vogels, Timboon’s Luke Walker, Daniel Newnham and Cobden debutant Rhys Baxter.
The Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic will commence with split qualifying nights on Friday and Saturday, before culminating in a 40-lap $30,000 to win main event on Sunday.
