Injuries continue to test Bloods

TERANG Mortlake’s unfortunate run of injuries continued last weekend.
The Bloods’ open netball side continues to struggle with injuries, with senior coach Sharon Kenna once again juggling player availability in the tail end of the season.
The Bloods have been without key player Emma Lucas (fractured wrist) and on Saturday talented goaler Rhi Davis was added to the injury list after a hard fall in the last quarter.
In what is believed may be a season-ending injury, Davis is expected to undergo scans on her elbow this week.
“Unfortunately we really are having a bad run in terms of injuries this season,” Kenna said.
“But to the players’ credit they’ve all put in 110 per cent and worked hard no matter where they’ve found themselves on the court each week.”
Last Saturday’s home game against Hamilton was another hard fought one for the Bloods, who found themselves within five or six goals going in to the last quarter.
“We were very competitive for most of the game it was just the first few minutes of the second quarter, where Hamilton got the jump on us and stretched it out to about five goals, that hurt us,” Kenna said.
“We had been level at the end of the first quarter and they only extended their lead by a goal or so in the third so we were proud of that.”
Kenna said that in comparison to when the two sides last met earlier in the season, the Bloods showed great improvement all over the court.
“We have North Warrnambool this weekend and that will be another tough one for us but we’ll just see what players we have available and do the best we can,” she said.
Final scores in the open match last weekend were Terang Mortlake 32 to Hamilton 44.
Best for the Bloods were Aimee Moloney, Eboni Knights and Ava Grundy.
In the division one match, the Bloods enjoyed a 21-8 goal win while division two had a 30-30 draw (with Zoe Ritchie named best on court).
In other games on Saturday, the Bloods’ division three side was defeated 11-26 (Harriett Place and Olivia O’Brien named best) while the 17 and under team lost 12-47 (Ava Grundy named best for the Bloods).
Laura Clarke was named best for the Bloods in the 15 and unders 31-21 goal victory while the 13 and under side also enjoyed a win, 19-17.
