Injury woes continue

IT may not have been a fairytale season ending for senior Camperdown coach Neville Swayn, but last weekend’s round 18 clash with North Warrnambool certainly was a rewarding one for the Magpie stalwart.

The Magpies, who have endured an injury-plagued season, fought hard against the finals-bound Eagles despite lacking numbers on the bench from early in the opening term.

“As seems to have been the way for us this year, we were once again plagued by injuries last weekend,” Swayn said.

“Sid Bradshaw was injured in the warm-up and both Hamish Sinnott and Luke O’Neil were injured in the first quarter.

“We didn’t have much of a bench after that but to the boys credit they all put in a huge effort and played some pretty good footy.

“To be just three points down by the end of the third quarter, with limited numbers, was a great effort but by the last quarter they were all pretty much spent. North are a quality side so I was proud of our efforts.”

Out of fresh legs, the Magpies struggled in the final term, adding just one major to the board while the visitors piled on nine goals six.

Final scores were North Warrnambool 19.16.130 to Camperdown 12.7.79.

Charlie Lucas, Harry Sumner, Joshua Place, Angus Gordon, Zach Sinnott and Brayden Daffin were named in the best for the side.

Fraser Lucas was effective in front of goals, kicking four for the day, while Angus Gordon and Harry Sumner kicked two each.

Dominic Absalom, Eric Guthrie, Charlie Lucas and Lenny Stephens also contributed a goal apiece.

Camperdown’s reserve footballers also struggled against the Eagles, going down 3.2.20 to 11.17.83.

Luke Ball, Jeremy Lucas, James McVilly, Luke Clarke, Jake Muddle and Ethan Coates were named in the best for the side.

Devon Coates kicked two goals while Luke Clarke added one.

Camperdown’s under 18s finished the home and away season with a big win over the Eagles and will now look ahead to this Sunday’s elimination final against Portland.

Final scores were Camperdown 19.9.123 to North Warrnambool 4.2.26.

Tarkyn Love kicked five for the day while Jonty Lafferty added four and Tom Baker and Darcy Vick kicked two each.

Wilby Cheeseman, Aidan Conheady, Taj Cunningham, Solly Mahony, Myles Sinnott and Finn Tolland each kicked a goal.

Among the best players were Tom Baker, Tarkyn Love, Jonty Lafferty, Myles Sinnott, Wilba Cheeseman and Darcy Vick.
