Jamie Vogels will stand again
CORANGAMITE Shire councillor Jamie Vogels has announced he will nominate for re-election at the upcoming council elections.
He said he will be seeking election in the newly named Cooriemungle Ward.
Throughout his tenure as a councillor, Cr Vogels said he has been unwavering in his commitment to advocate for the best interests of the Coastal Ward and the entire Corangamite Shire.
“My dedication to supporting agriculture and small businesses has been a cornerstone of my service,” he said.
“I firmly believe that these sectors are vital to the prosperity of our community.
“By attracting new businesses and creating opportunities that lead to job creation and economic security, we can ensure sustainable growth and a brighter future for all.”
Mr Vogels said one of his top priorities had been advocating for the improvement of roads.
“I will continue to press the state government to make our roads roadworthy and secure the necessary grants for our council to maintain and enhance our infrastructure,” he said.
“Good roads are essential for the safety and efficiency of our community.
“My view is that council’s role is to provide enabling services and infrastructure that empower residents while also supporting our most vulnerable members.
“I am committed to listening to the specific needs of each micro-community within our ward, ensuring their voices are heard loud and clear in council deliberations.
“To me, this is the essence of being a local councillor.”
Cr Vogels said the Corangamite Shire was at a “critical juncture with changes in land use” which could negatively impact the local community.
“If not addressed, we risk significant job losses and economic decline,” he said.
“This issue has been a major focus of my advocacy with the government and farming representative bodies, and will continue to be a top priority.”
Cr Vogels said as a local, who has been raised, educated, worked and currently raising a family in the shire, he is understands the communities’ priorities.
He said he has worked tirelessly to “represent and support” the shire’s hard-working community.
Cr Vogels said he was eager to continue this work and face the challenges and opportunities which lies ahead.
