A REMARKABLE season of cricket has paid dividends for Cobden’s Jess Walsh.
Walsh, who played an integral role in the Knight’s under 17 side this season, swept the pool at the recent Warrnambool and District Cricket Association awards.
Her haul included the women’s division bowling aggregate and average (12 wickets at 5.08), the under 17 girls’ bowling aggregate (seven wickets) and the under 17 girls’ fielding award (seven catches).
Walsh also won an award for her efforts at under 16 girls’ Country Week, where she finished with the bowling figures of 7/8 which included a hattrick against Ballarat.
At club level, Walsh also scooped the pool last weekend winning Cricketer of the Year for both the under 17 girls and women’s divisions, along with the bowling average and aggregate awards for the women’s, division three and under 17 girls’ sides.
Walsh also proved her ability with the bat and was rewarded with the women’s batting average and aggregate awards.
The Knights’ under 17s had a great season, finishing the home and away rounds in third place which earnt them a spot in the semi-final.
Despite a consistent on-field effort, they went down to Allansford-Panmure by two wickets, with Walsh adding eight runs to the scoreboard and finishing the day on 0/8 off her four overs.
