LOCALS have the opportunity to kick-start their footy careers and follow in the footsteps of the likes of Zach Merrett and Gary Rohan at the Cobden Football Netball Club.

Once again the club will run an under 10/Auskick program, with training to start at 4.30pm this Thursday, March 23 at the Cobden Community Bank Recreation Reserve.

“Merrett, Rohan, Ben Cunnington, Sean Darcy and Sam Walsh all began their footy careers at Cobden,” junior club president Chris Walsh said.

“We are a very welcoming club and look forward to seeing children and their families at the first training session this Thursday afternoon.”

The Bombers’ under 10 side will this season be coached by Simon Murfett and Steven Fisher and will follow the Hampden League’s under 12, 14 and 16 fixtures with games played on Sundays at 10am.

Round one will kick-off on Sunday, April 2 with an away game versus Koroit.

“The side will play all Hampden League clubs, apart from Portland and Hamilton,” Walsh said.

“This junior competition is a great way for boys and girls to start their football journey and follow in the footsteps of several AFL greats.”

Children who are registered at any Auskick centre are eligible to play under 10s at Cobden.

Those who are not Auskick-registered can register at the Cobden club.

Helmets, jumpers, shorts and socks are all provided by the Bombers.

For more information contact Chris Walsh on 0418 529 997 or Matt Robinson (Auskick/match day co-ordinator) on 0427 042 729.
