THE Camperdown and Terang dojos enjoyed success at the recent NAS National Karate Championships.
Jim Casey recently hosted the first national championships in three years thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic and it was great to see martial artists from all styles given the opportunity to once again show their skills.
Traditional karate featured on the podium several times at the nationals, held in Queensland, with Peter Conroy’s FKIA squad enjoying a successful championship.
Sensei Tobi Cole finished second in the under 72kg male black belt points sparring event, and third in the state v state points sparring.
In the women’s veterans’ division, Sensei Jill Cole finished third in the black belt points sparring, second in the under 60kg point sparring and third in the state v state points sparring.
Peter Conroy said he was “privileged” to judge both kata and points sparring at his first national championship and also to judge the women’s Champion of Championship events.
