GETTING to the checkout and realising you have lost your purse is a dreaded feeling, but it’s a feeling Hazel Pyke did not endure for long thanks to a stranger’s kindness.

Ms Pyke visited Camperdown Woolworths last Friday to get some shopping done.

“There were two nice men outside the store giving people information about the symptoms to look for if someone is having a stroke,”she said.

“One of the men asked if I would like for him to get me a trolley, which I said would be lovely.

“I put my bags on the hook at the back of the trolley and I thought I’d put my purse in the bag.

“But when buying my groceries I went to get the purse out of my bag and it wasn’t there.”

Ms Pyke said panic immediately began to set in.

“I rushed around to all the different places I’d got my groceries and I couldn’t find it anywhere,” she said.

“I went to look outside and the young man said something but I said I couldn’t talk because I was about to cry.

“He asked what was wrong and I said I couldn’t find my purse, but he said he saw me put it in my bag so it must have been inthe store.

“I went back in and the lady at the checkout was wonderful – she said not to panic, that we could put my groceries to the side and sort it all out – then she went to check if someone had handed it in, and yes, it had already been handed in.”

Ms Pyke visited the Camperdown Chronicle office this week to pass on her appreciation to all involved; the supportive Woolworths staff, the young man outside the store and the stranger who found her purse and handed it in.

“I just want to say thank you very much and acknowledge there are still some honest people,” she said.

“I have no idea who it was, but I was so relieved because there was only about $15 in my purse but all my cards were in there.

“The fellow outside came over and gave me a little hug and said he was glad I foundmy purse.

“It ended up I didn’t cry, but I had a glass of wine when I went home!”
