Grandparents day: Children at Camperdown’s three and four- year old kindergartens enjoyed a visit from some special guests last week.

The three-year-old and four-year-old kindergartens held their Grandparents Day on Monday and Tuesday last week, with many grandparents, parents and special friends visiting on the day.

Kindergarten director Bronwyn O’Keeffe said the guests were treated to a half-hour concert from the children, which included a variety of songs, dances and rhymes.

“There was an afternoon tea provided by the parents for all our visitors,” she said.

“Then the children showed their parents and grandparents around the room or outside what they could do.

“It was very well-attended.

“All the children had a special friend, grandparent, parent or people that came to see the kinder on the Monday and the Tuesday.”

Ms O’Keeffe said days like Grandparents Day were a highlight for the children.

“You see they’re a lot more confident when they’re showing their grandparents and people they love around the kinder,” she said.

“They have ownership of the kinder – they see it as their kinder, and they’re showing grandparents.

“I think they really look forward to it – they looked forward to choosing the dances and learning a special one just for their grandparents and choosing what we do.

“These community days are the real highlights for the children – they are their favourite things of the year.”

The concert started at 12.30pm, with the children eagerly awaiting the arrival of the grandparents and special friends throughout the morning.

Ms O’Keeffe said the day received positive feedback from grandparents, parents and special friends.

“A lot of them came from a fair distance – we had an interstate grandparent, we had some grandparents from near Swan Hill, up near Yarrawonga, and also Ballarat and Geelong as well as some local people,” she said.

“We appreciated people taking time off or shifting their work day so they could see their grandchildren, so that was good.”
