Knights grand final bound
COBDEN’S division one cricketers have turned the tables on Heytesbury Rebels to win their way through to South West Cricket’s grand final game.

COBDEN’S division one cricketers have turned the tables on Heytesbury Rebels to win their way through to South West Cricket’s grand final game.
The Knights, who were “convincingly beaten” by the Rebels in their previous encounter, were celebrating last weekend after a nine-run semi-final victory.
Division one captain Simon Murfett said his side was “absolutely stoked” to be heading in to this weekend’s big game after cementing its top four position after the final round of the home and away season.
“We only just snuck into the top four late in the season to even play finals was an amazing feat,” he said.
“To win last weekend really was the icing on the cake. I’m really proud of the team; hard work pays off but the nerves were certainly tested.”
Sent in to bat first, the Knights made quick work of the pitch, with opener Jack Hutt contributing a handy 52 runs.
He was well supported by Matt Harkin with 44 and Angus Uwland 32 not out.
The Knights finished their innings on 7/176.
“We knew we had a defendable total which was pleasing,” Murfett said.
“We’ve been working hard with the bat, knowing that we really needed to be able to bat out our 50 overs during finals so it was pleasing to get some decent runs on the board.”
Cobden’s bowlers continued the team’s strong form at the crease, with Murfett finishing the day with 4/41 off his 10 overs and Jackson Rock 1/16 off 9.2.
Matt Harkin 1/38 off nine and Paul Pekin 1/16 off four also contributed.
“Overall I was pleased with our efforts in the field but looking at the scoresheet we gave away 20-odd runs in extras,” Murfett said.
“And that’s something we really can’t afford to do in this weekend’s grand final.
“Bookaar is a strong side and we can’t afford to just give away runs. Our focus will be on our game – if we can bat out our 50 overs and get a decent score up we’re in with a chance.”
This Saturday’s grand final game will start at 11.30am and while the venue is yet to be confirmed, Murfett believes it “will most likely be played in Camperdown”.
