Knights make finals
COBDEN’S division one cricket side has held on to its position in the top four with a win in the final round of the home and away season.

COBDEN’S division one cricket side has held on to its position in the top four with a win in the final round of the home and away season.
The Knights will now play Heytesbury Rebels in one of two semi-finals of South West Cricket this Saturday.
Knights’ captain Simon Murfett said while his side was “absolutely stoked” to make the finals, they had “made hard work of it.”
“We’re thrilled to be playing finals and I’m really proud that we held in there (top four),” he said.
“Our batting is still a bit of an issue and it’s something we will need to again focus on at training. It’s a bit shaky but finals is always a whole new ball game.
“The first time we played Heytesbury we were beaten convincingly and the second round was a wash-out.
Hopefully we can turn the tables this weekend and the result is in our favour. To play a grand final would be the icing on the cake.”
Last weekend’s final round of the home and away fixture saw the Knights defeat Woorndoo by four wickets.
The Tigers batted first and were contained to just 78 runs while, in response, the Knights finished the day at 6/81.
Matthew Boyle on an unbeaten 19, Matt Harkin 19 and Eddie Walsh 10 were the only batsmen to reach double figures.
Best of the bowlers were Murfett 4/19 off 10, Jackson Rock 2/4 off 1.5 and Parker Walsh 2/15 off five.
Last Saturday saw the final match of the season for the Knights’ division two side, finishing fifth on the ladder after defeating Pomborneit 8/157 to 10/132.
Jai Anderson had a strong knock of 62 and was well supported by Simon Morris 25 and Jacob Pekin 17 not out.
Best of the bowlers were Pekin 2/5 off one over, Michael Pegg 2/7 off three and Luke Pekin 3/25 off eight.
Division three’s season also came to an end, with a 117-run loss to Simpson in last Saturday’s qualifying final.
Played at Noorat Recreation Reserve, Cobden finished at 9/113 while the Tigers piled on 5/230.
Chris Walsh 42, Connor Poole 16 and Abbey Hanks 15 were the only Knights to reach double figures while best bowling figures came from Hanks 2/34 from six.
