AFTERNOON showers saw the Duckworth Lewis system come in to play last weekend, giving victory to the Cobden Knights over Bookaar.

Rain saw play come to an abrupt halt on Saturday afternoon when the pitch and outfield became unplayable.

Cobden captain Simon Murfett said the Duckworth Lewis system – which comes into affect for games cancelled due to heavy rain- is a computer-generated system that determines the final result.

“The system can be quite confusing for many of us so thankfully the calculations are done for us,” Murfett said.

“And lucky for us, in this instance, the results fell our way and we won by six points.”

Batting first, the Knights managed 10/199cc after strong performances from Matthew Kemp 44, Damon Delaney 41 and Jackson Rock 32.

Rock continued his form with the ball, taking 2/25 off eight overs while Rangarajan finished with figures of 2/35 off 5.5.

“I was really happy with our top order batsmen, they got us off to a strong start and provided a strong score for us to defend,” Murfett said.

“Damon (Delaney) did very well and we’re looking forward to seeing what he brings in the coming weeks.

“The wind played abit of havoc with the ball but overall I was pleased with how the boys did in the field and hopefully the weather improves as the season progresses and we can get a few solid games in.”

The Knights will face Terang this weekend in a game that Murfett said would give them a fair indication of how his side was travelling.

“Terang has always been a tough opponent for us and we haven’t faired all that well against them in the last couple of years so hopefully we can turn the tables this weekend,” Murfett said.

“Any wins before the Christmas break is a bonus so we’ll be looking to add to our count.”

In division two last weekend, Cobden defeated Princetown 9/219cc to 6/145.
