CAMPERDOWN’S senior footballers had a tough day out last weekend, losing to ladder leaders Koroit by 166-points.

In what can only be described by Magpies coach Neville Swayn as “a day best left behind,” the Pies were restricted to just 2.4.16 for the day while the league’s benchmark went on a scoring spree, finishing on 27.20.182.

“They (Koroit) are a quality side there’s no doubt about that, and that’s why they’re on top of the ladder – but in saying that, we were disappointed with the result and the way we performed,” Swayn said.

“The boys were just really flat and I’m not quite sure why."

“That game is one that we just need to learn from and leave behind. We now need to look ahead and focus on the next match, which is against Warrnambool at Reid tomorrow (Saturday).”

Despite predictions of another wet day, Swayn is confident the work done on Reid Oval in recent times will see it hold up well.

“Reid is a good ground and we always enjoy playing there so it will be good to see how we rebound from last weekend,” Swayn said.

“If you look at the ladder we’re actually only a game off sixth so that’s something to build on. We’ll just take out best on the weekend and see what happens.”

Among the best for Camperdown last weekend were Luke O’Neil, Isaac Stephens, Archie McBean, Ethan Coates and Charlie Luas.

James O’Neil and Tim Fitzgerald were the side’s two goal kickers.

In the reserves, it was another tough one for the Pies, defeated 2.1.13 to 22.24.156.

Nelson Loader and Eddie Lucas were the two goal scorers while Zachary Harrop-Anderson, Shane Morgan, Nelson Loader, Eddie Lucas, Devon Coates and Jonnie Hooper were named in the best.

After tomorrow’s round, Camperdown will face fifth-placed Warrambool followed by Hamilton and then North Warrnambool in the last round of the home and away season.
