Lake Purrumbete to bop for charity

LAKE Purrumbete Holiday Park will shake with toe-tapping fun for the annual Music by the Lake fundraiser on Good Friday.

Part of Camperdown’s annual Good Friday Appeal, this year’s Music by the Lake is set to bring in crowd favourites as well as a taste of something new.

Event organiser, and one of the artists slated to perform, Ian ‘Bidge’ Boyd said this year will be similar to events of previous years.

“Allan Webster’s been a regular; he comes over from South Australia each year, so he’s been a fairly regular one,” he said.

“Pete Daffy was there last year with Rhiz and the Sugarplums, but this year he’s just getting another couple to play with him.

“We’ve listed him as a solo act because we’re not sure who’s playing with him.

“Kinta is from Geelong. She’s a new one; she’s never done it before.”

Mr Boyd and his fellow musicians will pick up their instruments from 12noon next Friday (March 29), with the dancefloor open to those looking to bust a move.

Raffles and competitions will be held throughout the day to raise funds for the Good Friday Appeal.

Food vans, milkshakes and coffee will be set up in the caravan park, providing attendees with the fuel to keep on dancing.

Mr Boyd said a feature from a few years ago will be making a comeback.

“We’re having an auction for a trailer load of cut and split firewood this year,” he said.

“We had it a few years ago, and that went well, so we’ve got that again this year as an auction item.

“There’ll be different auction items and raffles on the day as well.”

Mr Boyd said he hopes to raise over $5000 for the cause.

“You can always try and break records and that sort of stuff; last year we broke our record, and it’d be nice to make more than you did last year, but it’s not always possible,” he said.

“These days, with cashless society, a lot of people may not have coins and stuff for donations.

“Whatever we get is a bonus.”

Attendees are asked to bring their own chairs and shade but are advised gazebos are not permitted.
