The authority is working with Heytesbury District Historical Society and a heritage conservation specialist to deliver the new roof.

Due to the specialised nature of the heritage conservation work and the limited availability of contractors, construction will get underway in September.

Rocket equipment from Port Campbell has been used in rescue operations on the Shipwreck Coast since 1890, with the current shed completed in 1935.

Along with the foreshore upgrades being completed by Corangamite Shire Council, it is hoped the new roof will help to preserve and showcase the region’s rich history.

Coastal operations manager Caleb Hurrell said the authority was proud to have taken over management responsibilities for several land parcels of land in Port Campbell.

“We’re looking forward to working with the community to share and preserve the region’s rich history,” he said.
