Learn all about banksias at community day
IF you have ever wanted to know more about banksias, now is your chance.
Heytesbury District Landcare Network (HDLN) and Friends of Mt Leura Inc are holding a Banksia Celebration at Mt Leura on Monday, September 30.
HDLN project officer Kate Lesley said the Victorian Volcanic Plains variant of silver banksia was nearly lost to clearing and old age.
“It was once widespread across the Victorian Volcanic Plains, and an ecologically important species, nearly completely disappeared,” she said.
“Thankfully, and just in the nick of time, clever people – who went on to form Friends of the Forgotten Woodlands – realised and acted.
“Join with HDLN and Friends of Mt Leura Inc on Monday, September 30 to hear the story.”
The day will include a guided walk looking at the banksia seed propagation with Graham Arkinstall, a bring your own lunch chat, a bird survey with Timboon Field Naturalists Jason Ashwell and learning how to propagate banksias.
Spaces are limited with the propagation session - to make a booking visit https://events.humanitix.com/banksia-propagation-tips.
The guided walk will begin at 10.30am and will run until 12noon - to join the walk meet at Mt Leura’s lower shelter, the lunch will follow the walk.
