HAVE you ever wanted to give sailing a try?
The Derrinallum Yacht and Power Boat Club is a great place to learn the craft and if you missed last month’s ‘Learn to Sail’ weekend the club is happy to arrange a date to suit.
Australian Sailing promotes all areas of learn to sail programs, with tackers through to adults catered for.
The January weekend included activities and programs designed for all ages and abilities.
Participants had the chance to learn the basics of sailing, from rigging a yacht and learning how wind powers a yacht, through to getting on the water with a qualified sailor or instructor.
Last year the Derrinallum club hosted over 15 yachts and beginners from Geelong right through to Portland, with clubs such as Colac, Portland, Warrnambool, Stawell, Port Fairy and Geelong involved.
Training is centred around having fun while learning to right a yacht after capsizing.
Anyone wanting more information on learning to sail or how to join a local club is encouraged to contact Fiona Noone on 0455 503 802.
“For those who were unable to attend last month’s training weekend but would like to give sailing a go, we are happy to arrange another time for them to visit and try this fantastic sport,” Fiona said.
