Dementia Action Week, which runs from September 16-22, is a major leadership, awareness and advocacy campaign for people living with dementia, their families and carers.

Dementia Australia counsellor Jason Kelly said he was pleased with the attendance at the session.

“It was wonderful to see so many community members present and supporting this Dementia Action Week session,” he said.

“During Dementia Action Week, we’re encouraging everyone to take the first step to learn more about dementia and how you can help shape our communities for the better.

“Communities that are dementia-friendly are friendly for everyone.”

Corangamite Shire Council acting chief executive officer Justine Linley said the crowd were happy with the presentation from Mr Kelly.

“The questions asked by the crowd were all very relevant and Jason gave plenty of feedback and advice for carers and family members,” she said.

“Many attendees weren’t aware of the referral process to Dementia Australia and what support and advice they could get. Jason can also do home visits as required.”
